Increased customer concerns led Bogert Aviation to address corrosion problems found in aging Piper metal slope-top battery boxes. At the same time, they provided a solution for aircraft with plastic style boxes which are prone to broken vent tubes, warped lids and cracking.

Bogert’s battery box is a bolt in replacement for most Piper Cherokees regardless of original metal or plastic box installation. It is similar to Piper’s metal sloped top box, but with several improvements.

First, the box construction is welded stainless steel with stainless steel drain tube instead of soldered seams and copper drain tube. Secondly, if a vent tube becomes damaged, the screw in vent tube design allows for a quick and inexpensive change. Bogert also incorporated a previous STC, SA4008NM, The Battery Box Modification into this box. The modification’s u-shaped nylon flanges offer extra protection against shorting, greater access to the battery and cleaner electrical connections resulting in reliable starting. The boxes are available in bare stainless steel finish, but they highly suggest taking advantage of the powder coating. It is a few dollars more but will provide maximum resistance to corrosion.

Other Piper and Cessna Aircraft are slated for AML addition to STC SA01582SE over the next few months. Visit www.bogert-av.com or call (800) 627-8088 for more information.
